Finished model. The original of this bronze statue created by Gerhard Marcks is located next to the Bremen townhall. It is Bremen‘s landmark and part of the city arms. In 1953, Gerhard Marcks, one of the leading German sculptors of his generation, created this monument which soon became the secret landmark of the city of Bremen. Nowadays, it is impossible to visit Bremen as a tourist without having a look at this statue. The saying goes that a wish will become true if you touch the donkey‘s forelegs. The statue is listed as a historical monument.
